Certification is becoming an important factor in the healthcare industry in general. A survey of over 1000 key opinion leaders (KOLs) found that over 90% preferred Medical Affairs professionals who had a Board Certified Medical Affairs Specialist (BCMAS) designation.

Studies have shown that individuals who are certified in their field have higher salaries and better promotion opportunities.

BCMAS™ is a Board Certification accredited by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training/American National Standards Institute (IACET/ANSI). BCMAS™ is the first & only accredited program and the longest standing MSL/Medical Affairs Certification program in the industry.

Yes, you are still eligible as long as you can provide evidence that your school is certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG).

Once you enroll in the BCMAS™ program, you have up to 6 months to complete the program. Because the entire program is online, you can work at your own pace & comfort level to complete the program. If you require an extension, you will need to make a written appeal to our Chief Academic Officer who will make the final decision. There may be a fee associated with extensions granted.

Once you are accepted, you will receive confirmation and instructions via email. The program learning content can be accessed on an online, learning management system.

It will be a BCMAS™ professional designation. For example, John Doe, PharmD, BCMAS.

The examination is of intermediate difficulty. It is meant to assess your core competencies in the areas covered within the BCMAS™ program.

Similar to medical & pharmacy Board Certifications, although you are not required to 'pass' the assessments within each module, we encourage you to complete the preparatory modules as they do more than just help increase your chances of success in passing the board examination.

Our modules include educational information designed to help strengthen soft skills such as communication and presenting which cannot easily be assessed through a certification exam. To truly set the standard in the industry for excellence and competency, we must ensure that ALL the required skills and knowledge to be successful are properly addressed, not just the skills that are easy to assess through the certification exam.

The ACMA accepts experience from within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices, diagnostics, clinical and scientific/research industries as relevant towards BCMAS.

The candidate can take the exam anywhere, anytime. The final board exam is available on the program’s learning management system (LMS). The exam tab will be enabled once the candidate has completed all module quizzes. In order to sit for the exam, the candidate will need to schedule a proctoring session via ProctorU (the online proctoring service provider) at least 72 hours before the desired date. All of the instructions on how to schedule a proctoring session will be available on the examination page.

The exam is offered asynchronously. That is, the candidate may sit for the exam anytime, anywhere as long as the candidate has access to the BCMAS™ program’s learning management system (LMS).

Yes, you can retake the BCMAS™ exam up to 4 times. 4 exam attempts are included in the BCMAS™ program cost, so there are no additional costs for retaking the BCMAS™ board exam. If you fail all 4 attempts, there are additional costs required to be granted additional attempts.

NO, ACMA does not charge you any additional fees for retaking the exam. The only additional costs associated with retaking the BCMAS™ exam are the additional exam proctoring fee(s) which are charged by ProctorU.

If a candidate fails the exam on the fourth try, there will be a waiting period of 1 year before retaking the exam up to four more times, and a reexamination fee of $250.00 USD.

Certificates are available for download and print immediately after receiving passing results for the exam.

Mailed certificates are available upon request via the United States Postal Service (USPS) for a fee of $19.99. These certificates will be mailed quarterly.

For example, to receive your certificate within the quarter you must complete your board exam within 10 days prior to the ending of that quarter. Q1: January-March, Q2: April-Jun, Q3: Jul-Sep, Q4: Oct-Dec.

Candidates may request for an alternate shipping method for an additional charge.

Results will be available within 3-5 business days via email.

In order to protect the integrity of the BCMAS™ program, no exam questions or the answer key will be released to any individual or organization.

CE credits will be completed via the ACMA's learning management system similar to the modules of the BCMAS™ program. CE's cannot be completed any sooner than 12 months before the renewal date and therefore detailed instructions will be sent as you get closer to your renewal date.

If any extensions are needed, a charge of $399 will be required, regardless of extension period time frame.
